Here’s a good list of resources I recommend, whether you’re just getting into the outdoors and need info or if you need a local sporting goods store to rely on. I do both fishing and duck hunting, and I get questions about each. So, I’ve tailored this list to both.
An ideal location for finding information about hunting and fishing rules, news, regulations, and seasons.
The best local store to find fishing and camping gear. The staff is super knowledgeable and friendly. Buy local, support local.
Your best location for firearms, ammunition, and decoys. They always have a good selection of shotguns.
Ducks Unlimited has a great page on all species of waterfowl. A great tool for learning your different ducks!
You will need to have completed a Hunter Education course in order to purchase a hunting license.
WDFW’s page showing how to identify our 5 species of salmon. A good place to go if you are learnin how to do so!

Local Conservation Organizations
Skagit Land Trust is a major landholder and steward to keeping Skagit Valley rural and green, with a large focus on riparian areas and the restoration of native vegetation.
Local duck hunters supporting local conservation. WWA puts on fun events for members and the general public and supports waterfowl habitat efforts and access.
Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group focuses on habitat restoration & salmon recovery on the Skagit River.
A fishing advocacy group with local Washington chapters, Coastal Conservation Association is dedicated to protecting our salmon and other PNW fish.
Local Active Duty / Veteran Outdoors Organizations
These organizations cater to our veterans and active duty military:
A veteran-run nonprofit that organizes outdoor adventures for veterans, active duty, first responders and their families.
Fishy NW is a veteran owned and operated website that helps other veterans by providing information on fishing licenses, recreation passes, accessible outdoor programs, and official benefit information throughout the Northwest.
A nonprofit that offers fishing events and opportunities designed to reduce stress, foster new relationships, and provide many hours of fun and relaxation to our veterans.
